For all those who were pondering over my disappearance from the blogging circle (read: regular blogger), I am BACK ! I know, this sounds like a typical statement being made by some bollywood's actress who is now back in business after a sabbatical and has finally paid humongous sum to a director to present her like a sweet sixteen, competing with a 20-something actress. But no, I had so much going around on the work-front that right now, there are close to 10 drafts in my blogging posts which I never intended to complete and will now end up as archives in the drafts folder. Some push from my friends, juniors and of course, myself and here I am blogging again after months.
The state of the country is atrocious with our Prime Minister still oblivion to facial gestures, assembly elections, Indian cricket team sulking after the losses down under, young infants dying in hospitals, minority quotas being offered at throw away prices of just a single vote, telecom corporates frowning over the supreme court's decision to squash 2G licences and the list can go on an on. But despite all the fuss and the mess around, there still seems to be a reason for us to cheer up. A recent survey seems to reveal that we Indians are amongst the world's happiest people. Came as a shock to me and not just me, I am sure, most of us would agree to disagree with this. Having gone through the details of the survey, the point which came as a shocker was that the relationships and culture seems to be one of the important factors contributing to our happiness. And no, I have nothing against the institution of marriages but considering the rate of divorces in our country and the buoyant increase in the sales of i-pills, it was not easy for me to digest the fact.
But this brings me to another one of my not-so favourite topics of discussion: Marriages (Gosh). I am actually quite amused by the number of marriage and marriage related (read: mehendi, engagement, sangeet etc.) pictures being updated on my FB wall every other day. On a serious note, I do enjoy them thoroughly. Probably, this makes me ponder if this is what brings happiness in the lives of people when their friends, sisters, brothers, sons, daughters get married and gives them a reason to forget about the worldly woes and enjoy the week long traditions and functions of wedding. It is only in India, that the preparations and the functions begin way in advance and the everyone on the family from the youngest of the lot to the oldest in the family, everyone joins in the fun and celebration. Where on earth will anyone get to witness this jamboree??.
Some of my very close friends got hitched recently and the BIG smile is pretty much visible on everyone's face standing next to the bride and the groom. Really !
And hopefully this smile stays on everyone'e face who ever got married, or is about to get married or just attended their friend's wedding or cousin's wedding. (Oh, but our Prime Minister will not smile until the day he sees Rahul baba taking on his Gaddi :), So please do not expect him to smile until 2014 I guess ). And considering the fact that, it has been now proven that relationships do matter in our life, all we have to do is possess them and enjoy the moments as they come and we will be the happiest people on the earth.
And for all those poor souls like me, being tortured by their parents every now and then, please read the following blog. I am sure you will relate to this and smile by the end of it. After all, we are the happiest people !!
Keep smiling and do write to me if you wish to share your happiness !!

Not relationships, but freedom brings happiness. If relationships were to bring happiness then every man and woman should marry multiples. Anyways, marriage is just not a union of two souls, but of two families, their extended families and their fraands. And this is certainly not freedom. Relationships should rarely extend beyond each other's parents. People marry as few tasks are easier for one of them. It's like war for peace. Culture brings happiness as it has solution to day to day problems. Of course, our culture has no parallel anywhere.
ReplyDeleteYou have been quite harsh on our PM. Long time back, we always wished to have a leader who do more and speak less. MMS is at the extreme of our desire. He is a technocrat and not a leader. He was asked to run the country, he himself did not asked for the post. What goes on the other side, we would never know unless we are there. Have seen myself companies spending money on media to write good about them. You can not trust media either. Do you know that govt legally made more than 90K crore from 2G revenue-sharing-model, so far, despite call rates being ultra low for consumers. Big companies do not want small companies eating away their share of profits.
Was checking my web feeds list. A year has passed now, no new post. I should be taking back first para of my last comment. Experience is the reason. But second para is mostly true. Voda and airtel did increase call rates.
